Hemp and CBD: What is the Difference?

Hemp and CBD: What is the Difference?

What is Hemp?

Hemp is a plant that was legalized for commercial production by the 2018 Farm Bill. It contains only trace amount of THC, which is not enough to produce psychoactive effects. This is often a misperception of Hemp. Hemp plants are often processed into hemp oil, which is extracted from the seeds of plant. However, hemp has a wide range of non consumption uses, including as in industrial fiber for textiles production.

Hemp vs. CBD

CBD, i.e. cannabidoil, is one of many molecules found in the hemp plant. CBD products typically are higher concentrations of the molecule than naturally found in the hemp plant. CBD is incorporated into products like tinctures and edibles for regular consumption. CBD is rising in popularity because it lacks the psychoactive effects of marijuana. It can be found in lotions, oils, bath bombs, and many other daily use products.

Hemp vs. Marijuana

Hemp and marijuana are commonly mistaken for one another. However, they are very different plants. Although they are both varieties of cannabis, their chemical makeup distinguishes them. The biggest difference is in THC levels, the compound responsible for the "high" associate with marijuana. By federal law, a hemp plant must contain a significantly lower level of THC than marijuana, 0.3% THC or less. This is what all Desert Bloom Botanicals CBD products are made from. Any plant with greater than 0.3% THC is classified by the USDA as marijuana. You will not experience a high from Desert Bloom Botanicals products or any effect known from marijuana, making CBD a great substitute.

CBD Side Effects - What Does Research Tell Us?

As new products emerge in our daily lives, there have been few negative reports after using CBD as most people find it provides relief. This is why it is time to reflect on CBD as an ingredient and the methods of consuming it. Many people use it for chronic pain, sore muscles, anxiety and relaxation. WebMD list a few common side effects, which are mostly mild, including low blood pressure, drowsiness, lightheadedness, and dry mouth. Users sometimes report mild headaches when first exploring dosages.

CBD simply affects each person differently, and this is one of the reasons why it is best to discuss taking CBD with your health care provider in the context of your overall health and wellness needs. Your doctor will be able to help you identify any potential reactions with your current medications. Always follow your doctor’s recommendation when it comes to using cannabidoil products.

How to Protect Yourself When Purchasing CBD Products

Poor quality cannabidoil products are widespread online. Many products contain harmful additives that can do more harm than good to your body. Some products, unfortunately, don't contain CBD. With this in mind, look to ensure that your CBD product does not include synthetic cannabinoids, pesticides, or harmful additives.

Desert Bloom Botanicals CBD products are crafted from organic ingredients from local and regional farmers, are vegan, made in the United States, and utilize CBD isolate to avoid any THC for our customers.
